Piano lessons: Suzuki and traditional

Piano lessons are available at the Vermont studio for students aged 4 to adult, using Suzuki or traditional methods. The Suzuki method is suitable for students of any age, whereas traditional method is suitable for students of at least 7 years of age.

Parents are expected to support and encourage their child's musical progress at home, regardless of the method chosen. No prior knowledge of music is required on the part of the parent, as instruction will be given by the teacher.

A diverse range of skills is covered in the lessons, including technique, aural skills, theoretical understanding, music reading, memorisation, ensemble playing and improvisation. Special emphasis is given to developing beautiful tone and musicality in playing.

Individual lessons are available in 30, 45 and 60 minute time slots, depending on the age and ability of the student. Suzuki students also usually have one group lesson per term. Lessons are given during public school terms and fees for the term are paid in advance.

Preparation for AMEB exams

Sally is able to prepare students for AMEB qualifications in piano, piano for leisure or music theory. However, exams are only one part of a student's musical education, and should not be the only focus of lessons. A lifelong love of music will be developed through participation in a range of musical styles, activities and experiences.

Music theory lessons

Music theory is taught as part of the general curriculum in piano lessons. However, separate individual lessons are available for those wishing to sit for exams or for those learning an instrument other than piano. Lessons are generally available in 30 minute time slots.

Piano accompaniment

Piano accompaniment is available for singers and instrumentalists up to grade 8 level. Rehearsals for individual performers are held at the studio in Vermont.
